The second commandment is that we are not to create for ourselves any idols. Now I don't know about you, but when I think of idols the first thing that comes to my mind is the golden calf worshiped by the Israelites in the desert. We look at that and think, "how ridiculous!" How could we be so silly to worship some two-foot golden statue of an animal? What are we, in Indiana Jones' Raiders Of The Lost Ark? Idols are spiritual addictions. Idols are things we think we can't live without. Idols are anything that are more important to you than God. For the next few weeks we're going to be taking a closer look at some of the idols in our lives. The things that in and of themselves are good, but when we twist them, even subtly, we begin to make those good things just like golden statues.
